A message from Share a Meal e-board:
Share A Meal USC is an organization of USC students giving back to the Los Angeles community. It is a daily expression of the compassion and humility in our Trojan spirit. We come together with other service-minded individuals to serve the less fortunate, with no expectation of receiving anything in return. It is our mission to eradicate selfish living by incorporating selfless service into our daily routine.
Share A Meal has a central kitchen where rice and beans are prepared. Our mobile kitchens are food trucks that arrive on a regular schedule at different locations on different nights around the city where the homeless populations are concentrated. Volunteers meet at these locations and help roll burritos in the first hour of service. In the second hour, they not only serve the hot meals they helped to prepare, but also go out with loving hearts, kind words, and smiles, offering water, and other assistance in the form of socks, blankets, toiletries, and other necessities. The volunteer experience is one of humility and an uplifting of their consciousness. The homeless feel humanized and keep their hopes and dreams alive.
These people are the forgotten lot in our society. We shun them and dismiss them as the forgotten of society. Each one of them have a story behind how they got where they are. It is not our job to judge them. Our role is to help nourish their body and spirit at that critical phase of their life’s journey.
Thank you and fight on!
